UN Women - NCLW
2022
Over the past few decades, many efforts have been undertaken by civil society organizations and other national stakeholders to amend Lebanon’s 1925 Nationality Law (No. 15) to allow Lebanese women married to foreign spouses to confer their nationality to their husbands and children. During the past two years, several political parties submitted legislation to amend Law No. 15, but nothing has been ratified.
We produced a short video (The video has not yet been released to the public) for UN Women in partnership with the National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW) to accompany the release of a study on the consequences of discriminatory nationality laws againstLebanese women married to foreign spouses.
Our project documents the negative effects of that discrimination on the economy, on political participation, and on the lives of families ofLebanese women married to foreign spouses — e.g. denied access to basic needs including healthcare, schooling, work opportunities etc.
