Playback Theatre is spontaneous theatre createdthrough a unique collaboration between performers and audience. Someone tells astory or moment from their life, chooses actors to play the different roles thenwatches as their story is immediately recreated and given artistic shape andcoherence. Whether in the classroom, hospital, at a business conference or in atheatre, there is always the familiarity of this basic set-up for PlaybackTheatre.

 

The playback theatre infiltrates Arab world'scultural, artistic, and social life. When the stage becomes a safe space forthe audience, they utilize it to tell their tales to a group of actors, bothprofessional and trainees, who react to these stories in order to mirror thehuman experience on its complicated and beautiful sensations.

In this documentary, we go behind the scenes of the"Play Back Theater" to learn about this new type of theater in theArab World, as well as how the theater can be a safe area for everyone toexpress themselves and communicate with others.

The documentary is based on two main characters,"Maysoun" and "Abdullah", who are Syrian refugees inLebanon.

Abdullah, the founder of a theater troupe in Beirut,struggles to maintain his troupe and theater, as well as seeking a decentliving in a harsh capital like Beirut.
